Dental Implants

We use primarily one type of implant system, osseointegrated implants. These implants are made from pure titanium metal. The breakthrough in implant dentistry came about when it was discovered that pure titanium metal actually fuses to bone if it is allowed to lay undisturbed in bone for several months. Thus, implants in approximately the shape of a tooth root can be embedded in bone. The implants are in the form of a hollow cyclinder that has threads on the inside.

This allows us to screw into the implant an anchoring device that can be used for a variety of purposes. We can replace a single missing tooth with an implant. We can replace a span of missing teeth with several implants that have been restored by a fixed bridge. Or , we can anchor a complete, but removable, denture by implants. In our practice, Dr. Zaidi works as a team with our on staff oral surgeon Dr. Robinson to provide the patient with the best possible treatment option for their particular needs.

The implant approach that is right for each patient depends on many factors, such as:

1. the patient’s general health
2. the amount of jaw bone remaining in the area from which teeth have been removed
3. the patient’s psychological needs
4. the patient’s financial resources

Dr. Zaidi maintains a dental laboratory with a master technician that affords his patients immediate access to a variety of specialized denture services as well. The proper treatment plan for replacing missing teeth varies from one patient to another.  We rely on a thorough medical and dental history as well as x-rays and an examination to determine the right approach for any one individual.
